FULL NAME: Elena Gilbert

PERSONALITY: Elena used to be outgoing. She was on the cheerleading squad and was involved in many activities that were near and dear to her mother’s heart. When the fatal car accident occurred and claimed the lives of both her parents, Elena became withdrawn and depressed, pushing away the comfort of her closest friends (Caroline and Bonnie) and breaking up with her boyfriend at the time (Matt). Elena never though that she could be happy again. She never thought the pain of losing both her parents would subside. She felt tremendous guilt over the fact that she lived while she died.
In meeting and having a relationship with Stefan, Elena has found a sense of peace and happiness. He loves her completely and she loves him. Each day the pain of losing her parents becomes less and less. She still misses her parents of course, but the pain doesn’t seem to want to drown her anymore. She feels she can be with her friends now. She feels that she can interact with the outside world. She feels guilt in hurting Matt by breaking up with him, but is happy that he has seemed to find happiness in dating Caroline.
Elena can also be described as a very accepting individual. Her boyfriend and his brother are vampires, and yet she loves Stefan with all her heart. Her best friend Bonnie is a witch and her other best friend Caroline is a vampire. This hasn’t changed Elena’s opinions on her friend in any way. She’s even come to accept the fact that she looks exactly like Stefan and Damon’s ex vampire lover who turned them back in 1864. She’s not exactly fond of this fact, but she has come to accept it. The only thing she is having difficulty accepting is the fact that she’s adopted and that Grayson and Miranda aren’t really her mother and father. She has recently found out that her Uncle is her biological father and her birth mother is a vampire. She is also Elena’s history teacher’s dead wife. Elena isn’t exactly ready or willing to accept those facts yet.
Elena is extremely protective of her friends and family members. Her ability to love and forgive people who have done her and her loved ones wrong is astounding. Take Damon for example: Damon has done so many things that has aggravated Elena: he used and abused her best friend Caroline, he’s treated her boyfriend (who happens to be Damon’s little brother) horrible and has been on a 145 year quest to make his life miserable. Yet, through getting to know Damon, Elena has begun to count him as a friend and is very uncomfortable at the feelings that Damon is starting to develop for her. Very recently Damon did something incredibly drastic that has shattered her faith in him. He ‘killed’ her brother, Jeremy by snapping his neck. Thankfully, Jeremy had a magic ring given to him by his Uncle that will revive you if you are killed. Despite the fact that Elena is furious at Damon for what he did, he is slowly regaining her trust back.
The lengths she is willing to go to protect her friends and loved ones is one of Elena’s negative qualities, however. Elena is quite literally ready to die to keep her friends safe. She has recently come to find out that her blood is needed to lift the curse of the sun and the moon. In order to lift the curse, Elena has to die. In order to protect her family and friends from the oldest vampire in the history of time, she knows she has to die. This has caused many disagreements between her and her friends (especially between her, Stefan and Damon. Both of whom are willing to go to insane lengths to keep her safe). Elena is getting annoyed and angry at the fact that they want to save her when she doesn’t want to be saved. She has accepted the fact that she has to die. In her desire to save her family and in her willingness to die to keep them safe, this has lead Elena into making some risky and potentially dangerous deals. Her ultimate desire to keep her friends safe has led her to strike a deal with Elijah. She knows the deal she made with him and she knows in order for him to keep his end of the bargain in keeping her family in friends safe that she has to keep up hers. She has to die. A fact she is willing to hide from the people she loves, if only to keep them safe and to stop them from interfering in her plans.
Elena is extremely stubborn and is quick to anger when people call her on it. For example, when Damon came to her "rescue" from handing herself over to Elijah she refused to leave. She got angry when he tried to make her leave (which was really for her own good) she tried to hit him. Later, when he told her that her plan to hand herself over was incredibly stupid she angrily told him that the only stupid thing was the fact that she got caught. She didn't even want to examine the faults in her plan or consider that Damon's interfering was for a good reason.
Elena cares too much and often times makes decisions for other people because she believes it's in their best interest. For example, she broke up with Stefan because Katherine compelled Jenna to stab herself in the stomach. She also doesn't think her plans all the way though, considering the fact that she assumed that having Damon compel her brother Jeremy to take away his pain and suffering was the right thing to do, never once thinking about the repercussions of her actions. There is also the matter of the deal she made with Elijah just so she could get Stefan safely out of the tomb and away from Katherine. While she thinks that she is doing things in the best interest of others, it usually only ends up hurting her or the very people she was trying to protect in the first place in the long run.
Elena trusts and forgives people way to easily, which considering her track record is not in her best interest. Damon has done a lot of shitting things to her, from snapping her brother's neck in a rage that she wasn't in love with him. Before that event had occurred, Damon threatened Elena's life by holding her in a choke hold and forcing blood down her throat and threatened to kill her (which would have resulted in her becoming a vampire) if Stefan didn't give him the grimoire so he could free Katherine. Despite all this, Elena has forgiven Damon for everything he has done to her. Which could be seen as a good thing considering Damon really does care about her, but she does this with people who don't have her best interest in mind. When she was kidnapped by Rose and Damon and Stefan came to save her, she told Damon not to go after the woman. This was putting a lot of faith in a vampire Elena didn't know. She couldn't be sure that Rose wouldn't come after her again, she just put her faith blindly in the fact that she wouldn't.
Her selfishness and martyrdom are getting to become serious issues. Ever since she found out in order to lift the curse of the sun and the moon that she, the doppelganger has to die, she has been on a never-ending quest to sacrifice herself and keep everybody safe. She's become deceptive to get information she wants out of people. For example, Damon had information on Katherine that Elena wanted and she used him to get the information out of him. She also talks about having a future with Stefan while still secretly planning on sacrificing herself to save everybody.
At times, Elena also doesn't think things through. Whoever said writing in your journal about how your boyfriend and his brother were vampires was a good idea? Not only did she write that in her journal (which could have easily been found by anybody who would care to snoop) but she also wrote about how she had Damon compel Jeremy to take away his pain and suffering. Which--surprise, surprise Jeremy found her journal and when he read it, he learned everything. This has taught Elena a valuable lesson: Never put anything you don't want to be discovered in writing!
ABILITIES: Elena is a human so she has no abilities so to speak. However, with her vervain necklace, she has the ability to not be compelled by a vampire.
WEAKNESSES: Her friends and family being in danger
CANON POINT: 2x11: By the Light of the Moon. Stefan has been released from the tomb and reunited with Elena
WHY HAS YOUR CHARACTER CAUGHT THE EYE OF THE COLLECTOR?: Due to Elena’s necklace, she has the unique ability not to be controlled by vampires like a normal human would be.
THIRD-PERSON RPG SAMPLE: Elena paced her room, her head reeling. What had she done? Had she really just made a deal with an Original? When Elena had seen him again for the first time, she had been terrified. After all, Damon had staked him. Elena had seen Damon stake Elijah. Yet, he had appeared yet again just when Elena was getting close to handing herself over to Klaus. He had killed those three vampires and let her and Damon live. The question of why had been nagging at her ever since. How did a vampire survive a staking? Even Damon had been surprised to see him alive.
And then there was the fact that with Jenna being continuously left in the dark that she kept unintentionally inviting vampires into the house. Elena thought sure they were all going to die when she saw that Elijah was in the house doing “research” on Mystic Falls. Oh Jenna, her sweet naïve Aunt would believe anything. Elena was seriously going to have to consider telling her the truth, if only to keep unwanted vampires from entering the house.
When Elijah had suggested that they talk, Elena had been intrigued and fearful. If she declined, it was quite possible that he would kill Jenna and Jeremy. So, unknowing to them, Elena had lead Elijah into her room and finally she learned his ultimate motives in keeping her and Damon alive. He wanted her alive so he could use her to draw out Klaus and kill him. Should she be agreeable and comply with him, he and the witches he had working for him could keep everyone Elena cared about safe. That was all well and good, but there was something else she needed, something else she wanted and if Elijah was going to use her to draw out Klaus, then she needed him to do a little something more for her.
Oh he had looked surprised, even amused that she, a tiny human would stare him down and demand anything more out of him then he was prepared to offer. She had seen just how far negotiating with him had gotten Rose and Trevor (with Trevor being dead), but she had done it. She wanted Stefan out of the tomb and away from Katherine. Should Elijah do this, Elena would go along with his plan in allowing her to be the bait to draw out Klaus. Elijah was a man who picked his words carefully. He had promised to keep everyone she cared about safe, not her.
She sat at her window, contemplating her deal, willing herself to accept the fact that she was going to die in order to ensure that Klaus didn’t go after her family like he had Katherine’s. It was for the best this way. Nobody else had to get hurt. She would gladly to this, because she knew anyone else would have done it for her.
“Elena…”
She turned when she heard Stefan’s voice at the door. Elijah had kept his word. Relief flooded through her as she ran to her boyfriend and tossed her arms around his neck and hugged him close to her. As she kissed him and allowed him to back her towards the bed she realized didn’t know how much longer she had with him. She couldn’t tell him the full extent of her deal. It would only worry him and she was positive he would do whatever he could to stop her. No, it was better to enjoy what little time left they had together. She would do whatever she could to keep him safe. Even at the cost of her own life.
